Cole Personal Safety started in August 2007 to help those in need of obtaining their Handgun Carry Permit through the State of Tennessee. Owner, David Cole saw a need and filled it. To many bad things are happening to good people and it is time for people to learn what they can do to protect themselves. The Police can only be so many places at one time. In other words; they can not be everywhere at once.  Cole Personal Safety are members of the Dickson County Chamber of Commerce

Cole Personal Safety celebrates first year of business

David and Margaret Cole and Jimmy Newton of Cole Personal Safety celebrated the first year of their business Saturday with an open house and a ribbon cutting at the Dickson Police Department firing range.

Cole Personal Safety offers a twice-monthly handgun carry permit school and it also offers other services such as drug awareness programs and safety courses.

The school opened just over a year ago and so far, there have been over 350 students to graduate from the state-mandated handgun carry permit course.

The eight-hour class is broken up into two parts: an indoor learning session and about four hours spent on the range.

Regular classes are held each month and the learning environment is both friendly and humorous while also being serious. Discounts are given for couples and groups.

Cole Personal Safety also is a registered recruiter for the National Rifle Association and they are close to being one of the top 10 recruiters in the Southeast Region for the NRA this year.

Owner David Cole has been a Law Enforcement Officer for the last 14 years. David has served several postions in the Dickson Police Department to include Patrolman, arrest and security team leader on the Departments SRT Team and also the position of Tactical Marksman. David currently is the Crime Prevention Officer for the department and is also a certified Crisis Negotiator for the Departments Crisis Negotiation Team. David is a State of Tennessee Certified Instructor and holds many instructor certifications to include: D.A.R.E. instructor; Drug Free Workplace instructor; Domestic Violence instructor; NRA Pistol Instructor and a Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Certified Hunter Education Instructor.

Cole Personal Safety utilizes off duty state certified Police Officers to assist with the class but the main assistant to the Handgun Carry Permit Class is Jimmy Newton who is a state certified and NRA certified instructor and an NRA certified Range Safety Officer. Jimmy has been working for the phone company for 34 years. He is extremely knowledgeable about guns and shooting safety and is a great asset to the class.
